Sustainability through design and construction

In sustainable construction we consider the environmental impact that could arise in the construction, sourcing of materials, operational, transport and waste that will arise in a project. The aim will be to use more renewables, less energy, reduce the levels of pollution whilst still producing a site that maintains levels of quality and design that benefit the community and adheres to our standards.

Energy Efficient Homes

A challenge that we are facing is to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and reduce our carbon footprint. Design and materials are key in ensuring that we meet the guidelines set and produce a home that is energy efficient and will reduce the owner’s fuel bill.

Improvements can be made by assessing the site conditions, potential occupant behaviour, the climate, appliances, insulation, lighting, daylight, space heating and cooling, water heating, windows, doors and openings. Depending on design restrictions we would look to tackle the whole buildings energy efficiency on the outset.

The design of a building has to consider what changes might happen in the future life of the building, how likely are they to happen, the impact of such changes and the cost to future proof against the change.
